Burial Guide and Procedure

After a person passes away, then close the eyes gently (if open), close the mouth by fastening a clean piece of cloth under the chin and over the head, tie both feet together with a cloth at the toes, straighten the arms and legs and cover the body with a clean sheet.
PROCEDURES & GUIDELINES FOR BURIALS:
1.1 If a person passes away at home get your local GP / Doctor to complete and sign the BI 1663 NOTICE OF DEATH.
1.2 If the death occurs in a hospital, then the hospital staff / doctor will complete this FORM.
2. Thereafter, notify the responsible brothers (who attend to the burials) from your respective area, and they will then contact the Burial Services to arrange for a Hearse. At this stage please do not confirm any burial times, Burial Times will ONLY be Confirmed after reaching the GHUSAL Khaanah
3. The following must be available to facilitate the funeral arrangements:
- BI 1663 Notice of Death Certificate (supplied by Burial Committee or Hospital).
- Smart Card or Green Bar-Coded ID Book of the deceased.
- Physical Address OR Hospital Name and Ward.
- Contact name, Telephone number and ID Book of the person present at home or hospital to meet the brother/s from the Burial Services.
- Copy of a Utilities Bill or similar as proof of resident.
4. It is the responsibility of the deceased’s family to appoint individuals to perform the Ghusal. If this cannot be arranged, then please liaise with the Burial Services to facilitate arrangements. At this stage you should finalize the ‘Pick-Up’ time and appoint a lmaam for the Janaazah Salaah. The Burial Services will make the necessary arrangements for the Kaffan and Grave.
5. Copies of individual parahs of the Qur’aan, Yaaseen Shareef, blankets and chairs can be loaned from the respective Jamaats. However, it is the responsibility of the family to arrange for this service and organise their own transport to pick up and RETURN the same. Please return these items within 3 days. Please take along your ID when collecting the above.
6. Please Note that the cut off times for burials will be 9.30 pm i.e., the “Leaving Time” from a specific address. There will be exception cases identified by the Burial Services, i.e., accidents, severe long-term illness, and cases of excessive bleeding. During Ramadhaan, burials will be accommodated for after the Taraaweeh Salaah.
7. Burial Services will co-ordinate the following – Registration of Death, Grave Payments and Name Board. Funeral Costs will be Invoiced and forwarded to the deceased’s family OR responsible informant. It will be greatly appreciated if the Amount is settled immediately. 8. The upkeep of the Qabar is the responsibility of the family of the deceased.
